Surprise, surprise... This one is for me! The last snow storm made me realize: I need a winter hat!
This project was super simple. Ready for this?
1) I followed Oombawka's medium pattern for the Simple Double Crochet Beanie using a size G crochet hook and some leftover Red Heart Super Saver with Love yarn in maroon.
2) I added a tried-and-true pattern for small scallop edging that I learned from the How to Crochet blog (see how awesome it looked on this Granny Square Baby Blanket?!).
3) I added a flower applique which was actually part of Aesthetic Nest's Crochet Baby Cloche Tutorial, which I followed once before to create this Newborn Hat with Flower.
The beanie comes down about 7-1/2 inches and is 21 inches around at the opening. The flower is 4 inches in diameter and juts out less than 1/2 inch.
I'm loving this winter hat, although I'm hoping I don't have many more opportunities to wear it-- I'm ready for spring to arrive!
Keep warm and happy hooking,
Jilliane

Leonardo TMNT Beanie Mask
My husband is a big fan of TMNT (and a kid at heart!) so I just couldn't resist crocheting this beanie mask as a Christmas present.
I used a size "I" crochet hook with Loops & Threads Impeccable yarn in Royal and Kelly Green.
I followed the Crochet Ninja Turtle Mask Hat pattern by Holyjeans and My Favorite Things. It was listed as a child size, but I agree with the author that it's actually an adult size. The beanie measures 22 inches around and 9 inches tall (mask to tip of hat).
Hope this provides some inspiration for your next project!
Happy hooking,
Jilliane

Leaping Stripes & Blocks Newborn Beanie
My cousin, Daisy and her husband are expecting their first child in late-April, so I decided to make crochet a matching blanket and beanie for the little guy.
After crocheting the beanie, I was feeling skeptical about the sizing, so I made some adjustments and crocheted a second smaller beanie. Throughout the blog, I'll refer to the baby beanie and the newborn beanie.
For both beanies, I used the same three colors of yarn as I did with the matching blanket-- Red Heart Super Saver in Dark Orchid, Red Heart Super Saver in Turqua, and Red Heart with Love in Pewter. And once again, I followed Moogly's Leaping Stripes and Blocks pattern.
Here are my notes for the newborn beanie:
I used a size G crochet hook. After completing Round 3 (36 stitches), I skipped ahead to Round 5 of the leaping blocks section. After completing Rounds 5-10 of the leaping blocks pattern, I skipped ahead to Round 13. For the edging, I crocheted only 3 chains.
The newborn beanie measures about 5-1/2 inches tall and 13 inches around.
Here are my notes for the baby beanie:
I used a size "I" crochet hook. After completing Round 3 (36 stitches), I skipped ahead to Round 5 of the leaping blocks section.
The baby beanie measures about 7-1/2 inches tall and 15 inches around.
I am so excited to see the handsome little guy wearing his beanies! Hope this gives you some inspiration for your next project. Happy hooking!

Child Hat with Ribbon Bow
Little Miss Emma grew out of her newborn hat, so I decided to crochet a new one for her!
Just like last time, I followed the 3-6 month pattern by Aesthetic Nest Crochet. This time I used a size K crochet hook and thick, bulky yarn: Lion Brand Yarns in Phoenix Azalea (1 skein, 64 yards).
A couple variations from the pattern:
1) I followed the pattern up to Round 5 (and added 1 extra hdc for 36 hdc total). Then, I skipped ahead to Rounds 9-10 of the pattern (maintaining 36 hdc). After that, I skipped ahead to Round 12 (decreasing to 33 hdc), followed by the eyelet and edging rounds. Final measurement: 18-inch circumference.
2) I skipped the flower this time; instead, I weaved a wide, grey ribbon through the posts/spaces and finished with a simple bow.

This was a fun, quick project and I hope it keeps Emma cute and warm!

Newborn Hat with Flower
My latest project was a cute little hat for my best friend's baby girl, Emma Kate.
This is my first-ever attempt at crocheting a hat, and it was surprisingly easy. I followed a tutorial by Aesthetic Nest who explained the pattern step-by-step. This tutorial is great-- it even provides patterns for different sizes. I used a size G crochet hook and followed the pattern for size 3-6 month. Side note: I think this size is closer to newborn... perhaps my stitch is a little tight?
This project only used a little bit of yarn-- I'm not sure exactly how much. I used scrap yarn left over from other projects:
- Red Heart Super Saver, Orchid
- Caron Simply Soft, Off-White
The only variation I made was on the flower. Rather than crochet the entire project in one color, I crocheted the first layer of the flower in cream and the second layer in purple. I really like how it turned out!
Well, hope this gives you some inspiration... Have stitching!

Update: Emma Kate was welcomed into the world on November 27. At 7-1/2 pounds, her hat fit perfectly!
